It will convene again U.S. and allied partners in an unprecedented day and a half of high level knowledge sharing and networking. We are very grateful for those confirmed sponsors and exhibitors to date and for your continued interest and support.

Last year, nearly 800 attendees came to the summit and heard high level speakers from DOD, NSA, DHS, NIST, the FBI, DOT, OMB, Coast Guard Cyber Command, U.S. Army Cyber Command, U.S. Marine Corps Cyberspace Command, Air Forces Cyber and U.S. Cyber Command, plus the Director of GCHQ Jeremy Fleming delivering his first address in the U.S.

Testimonials

“I met Tom [Billington, Founder and CEO of Billington CyberSecurity] in 2014 while I was the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity & Communications and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as he hosted a cybersecurity summit in New York City. It was phenomenal and featured senior cyber leaders from around the world, the US government, the financial sector, academia, and more. Tom continues to bring the most important cyber executives, policy makers, thinkers, researchers, and operators together in valuable engagements that educate, inform, entertain, provoke and help develop lasting positive relationships and professional networks. If you can only attend one cybersecurity event, I recommend a Billington Cybersecurity Summit be the one you invest in. They are the best!” — Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Greg Touhill, President, Cyxtera Federal Practice (First U.S. CISO who served for over 25 years in the military)

“Tom has created, organized, and led the best Cyber Security Summits in Washington D.C. over the last 10 years. No one has been able to garner nationally and internationally known speakers and experts in the field as Tom Billington. I’ve been proud to have been associated with him and his company for the last 8 of them. Due to his leadership and foresight, Tom was also able to create and host Automotive and International cybersecurity Summits at exactly the right time when security implications came to the forefront for these industry and agencies.” — Earl Matthews, Maj Gen USAF (ret), Chief Strategy Officer, Verodin, Inc. (Former Chief Information Officer, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force)

Ten Innovations in 2019:

1. The expansion of the summit by a half day will allow for more networking and more speakers and content than ever before.

2. Moving the Exhibit Hall into the same room as the Main Session will enhance networking allowing for a unified experience for attendees, speakers and sponsors.

3. The introduction of continuing education credits for the first time through (ISC)² and ISACA allows you to receive credit for hearing this world class content.

4. You will hear nearly 14 hours of programming, the most ever.

5. You will have continued allied FiveEye support as we launch a Canadian Cyber Innovation Zone and United Kingdom Cyber Innovation Zone with Northern Ireland support.

6. Israel, also a staunch U.S. ally, will have the largest presence ever in the program and at the Exhibit Hall. At least 10 companies are expected to participate at the Israel Cyber Innovation Zone. Plus Yigal Unna, Director General, Israel National Cyber Directorate, and Roee Laufer, Division Head, Cyber and Information Security, Israel Airports Authority, will speak publicly for the first time in Washington, D.C.

7. More content about cutting edge topics that you need to know about such as Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, 5G, Quantum Computing, CDM, active defense, preventing a cyber 9/11, securing critical infrastructure, zero trust etc.

8. Insights from the highest level decision makers across all facets of cyber security.

9. More civilian senior experts from Department of Homeland Security, GSA, Department of Transportation, Department of Energy etc.

10. For sponsors, new one-on-one networking opportunities and exclusive VIP receptions.

Reality has struck. As Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs), managing your business in the "new normal" requires a unique strategic perspective as well as the tactics that can be used to execute successfully. It requires the mastery of balance between managing cash flow while investing for future growth, insight into the principles that drive the future operating model for finance and a clear understanding of how finance can drive greater decision support to the broader business through analytics and digital finance capabilities.

It's no longer an option to rely purely on defensive, cost-cutting measures. Now is the time to synthesize strategy, innovation, talent and execution.

@kuppingercole

The Future of Consumer Identity & Access Management (CIAM) & Customer Experience

Using Identity for Digital Business Enablement!

Customer Experience (CX) is the central starting point when it comes to the strategic definition of your CIAM. Managing millions of identities and handling several millions of interactions per day is a technical challenge that changes every day. However, ease of use, efficiency, and joy of use by the customer are indispensable prerequisites. At the same time, it is mandatory that every consumer can have controlled access to his personal data.

Managing customer information in a digitally changing economy with many business partners in need of access is one of today's biggest challenges and will continue to evolve rapidly. Understanding the wishes and requirements of customers and mapping them successfully in CIAM processes is the key to successful online business. Customers have a constantly growing selection of online service providers, your CIAM is one of the decisive points with which you can drive your customers to choose your business and achieve a lasting customer loyalty for your company.

Consumer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) is many things. For some, it’s all about streamlining the user experience through technologies and practices that make it easier for them to securely log in. For others, IAM is all about identity lifecycle management – ensuring that accounts are set up, modified, and deleted in a timely, accurate, and secure manner. And for still others, it focuses on security and compliance through technologies and practices that make governance activities such as attestations easy and complete or adding a layer of control and visibility to privileged accounts and “superuser” access. Facing reality CIAM is all of this, and even more.

At the Consumer Identity World, you learn how to balance the user experience, privacy, and security of your connected customer and how to enhance the customers' journey by leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to provide a superior and customized experience.

DefendCon 2019
@DefendCon

Description

DefendCon was born from several inspirational men and women who wanted to offer a different type of conference experience. We wanted to create a conference that provided the same technical content as a more traditional security event while providing a safe, collaborative space for women and non-binary individuals. At this conference you’ll be exposed to industry luminaries from top tech companies, participate in technical hacking challenges, and network with industry peers.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

All student must show valid student ID to recieve the student rate. Some evening events may be 21+ due to Washington State liquor laws.

What do you mean by "Gender Diverse"?

When we created DefendCon we listened to a lot of our friends who were transgender and nonbinary who related experiences where they weren't welcome at "women only" conferences. We recognize that language around these issues is imperfect, but that individuals with non-majority genders often experience the same types of discrimination and harassment, and that what unites us is a desire for a safe, harassment free space, to learn and grow.

Will I have to prove my gender? What if I'm (insert gender identity here) but my legal ID is different?

Just like in bathrooms, we believe that everyone has the inalienable right to express their gender identity and that no one has a right to 'check' or 'enforce' gender identity.

Ally tickets are sold out? Isn't it sexist that men are excluded?

We restrict the number of ally tickets because one of the main goals of the conference is a place where we can connect with other people in an environment where women feel safe and not 'other'. We love our male allies, but want to maintain a predominantly female demographic.

Summit: Sep 30 - Oct 1 | Training: Oct 2-7 | Summit CPE Credits: 16

Will you be the hunter or the prey?

Chances are very high that hidden threats already exist inside your organization's networks. No matter how thorough and sophisticated your security precautions may be, you cannot assume your security measures are impenetrable. By themselves, prevention systems are insufficient to counter focused human adversaries who know how to get around today’s advanced security and monitoring tools. It takes highly skilled and focused hunters to defeat these persistent adversaries.

Hear from the experts — Learn how to become an elite threat hunter.

The two-day Summit brings together prominent security practitioners for in-depth talks focused on techniques that can be used to successfully identify, contain, and eliminate adversaries targeting your networks. As an attendee, you’ll walk away from this Summit with new tools and methods to leverage as soon as you return to work.

The Summit will explore the following:

  • The effectiveness of threat hunting in reducing the dwell time of adversaries

  • Operationalizing threat hunting

  • Automated threat hunting: Fact or fiction?

  • Threat hunting tools, tactics, and techniques that can be used to improve the defense of your organization

  • Case studies on the application of threat hunting to security operations

  • Innovative threat hunting tactics and techniques

  • New tools that can help threat hunting for both endpoints and networks

  • Perspectives and case studies that challenge threat hunting assumptions and can result in a shift in understanding

With the European GDPR now in effect, data protection and classification is top of the agenda for all global organisations. There is still great uncertainty about the long-term effects the regulation will have in the US but with the strong reactions seen recently to the Facebook and (now defunct) Cambridge Analytica scandal it is clearly vital for all organisations to be prepared.

The modern day security leader strives to reduce complexity across the security ecosystem, achieve better threat visibility, continually tighten security controls across all tiers, whilst protecting the organisation from the insider threat through to third parties and with legacy systems continuing to burden, patch management, threat detection and prevention have never been more critical.

Next generation technologies such as AI and ML, cloud investments and the continual advance of application development bring many benefits across the business but the implications for security has never been greater.

The good news is that the executive board is now more engaged with the security and risk function and the essential part it plays in the organisation. Investment is increasing for previously undervalued projects. There has never been a more important and relevant time to share experiences and strategies from across industries to ensure workable solutions are found to these critical threats.

@HackerHalted

Though we like to have fun and play-act like the pirates in, “Pirates of the Caribbean,” or the “Dread pirate Roberts” in “The Princess Bride,” in reality piracy has been troublesome and deadly since the dawn of civilization.

Traveling the Roman roads in sandals with a donkey laden with your leatherworks, spices and tin? Pirates can waylay you and take it. Sailing on the seas with a ship full of tapestries, silver and horses from the newly re-discovered Americas? Pirates can board the ship and, and claim the goods. Even large ships that ply the seas with shipping containers full of cars, flat screen TVs and microcircuit components from all over the world hire private security firms toting AR-15s and 50 caliber rifles to fend off pirates in the seas of the 21st Century.

Only one donkey now and then? One Ship? Those were the good ol’ days, because now one pirate, or the group he represents, can cause a billion-dollar data breach, take down an entire municipal government with well-placed ransomware, or weaponize narrow AI to conduct hacking campaigns that do more damage in minutes than a group of the smartest hackers could have done in years.

It is time to learn to think like a pirate to fight the pirates! Arrrrr mates, come t’ Hacker Halted 2019 and learn th’ ways o’ the Pirate!

According to recent analysis by KPMG, about half (49%) of power and utility CEOs surveyed say that becoming a victim of a cyber attack is now a case of 'when', and not 'if'. Despite this, only half (51%) say that their organizations are well-prepared to deal with a cyber attack.

The need to protect substations and distribution and transmission infrastructure from cyber attacks is of paramount importance to utilities, as grid SCADA and PLC grid control networks are inherently a weak link for cyber threats.

To help utilities meet this challenge, the Utility Cyber Security Forum on December 4-5, 2019 offers a focused venue in which utility executives can network one-on-one with colleagues facing similar issues. Presentations by leading White Hat hackers, vendors, utilities and technology thought leaders will provide invaluable insight and guidance into making the network secure from cyber threat.

Building off the success of the spring 2019 program, the roundtable format allows for a focused, problem-solving, off-the-record Forum in which utility peers and solution providers can share insights and lessons learned. Over 11 hours are set aside over the course of the program for one-on-one meetings and networking among attendees.

PHLAI 2019
@Xfinity

We are excited to announce our third annual PHLAI conference. The theme of this year's conference is using artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve the customer experience.

From improving the efficiency of the customer experience to generating new insights and building deeper relationships with customers, artificial intelligence and machine learning is transforming the way companies around the world engage with their customers. At Comcast, we see artificial intelligence and machine learning as powerful tools for improving the customer experience.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning is empowering our agents and enabling self-service tools, like the Xfinity Assistant, to provide smarter, more efficient interactions. Artificial intelligence and machine learning is monitoring our network to predict when a problem will occur so we can minimize any impact to our customers. And artificial intelligence and machine learning allows us to engage our customers at the right time, with the right messages, through the right channel to help ensure they are having the best possible experience with our products.

At this year's conference, we will hear from companies that have already used artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve the customer experience, and explore the potential of emerging artificial intelligence and machine learning research and technology to create new and innovative ways to engage with customers.

Your supply chain is an overlooked threat vector.

Recent high-profile security breaches starkly illustrate the growing concern around supply chain cyber security. Adversaries are exploiting suppliers and vendors to gain access and damage their intended target. It’s a viable threat vector because most organizations are not able to monitor and assess every third party in their supply chain. To effectively safeguard against this growing risk, security teams have adopted an integrated approach that leverages controls and processes to ensure third-party organizations are meeting established security requirements.

Hear from the experts—learn how to better defend your supply chain.

The Supply Chain Cybersecurity Summit will bring together leading security practitioners to explore practical methods for protecting products, networks, and data from supply chain attacks. Experts will draw upon their own experiences and recent notable breaches as they provide concrete strategies and tools that can be used to assess, detect, and resolve third-party vulnerabilities.

Explore a wide range of topics:

  • Supply chain attacks: Hardware and software

  • Subversion at points of design, manufacture, service, distribution, and disposal

  • Lessons learned from recent supply chain attacks, such as NotPetya

  • Third-party risk assessment and vulnerability management

  • Software updates

  • Threat hunting in the supply chain

  • Concerns with 5G implementation

  • Backdoors and bug doors

  • Remote support to products and devices

  • Out-of-date and abandoned software

Blue Team Village at DEFCON 27
@BlueTeamVillage

Welcome to the other side of the hacking mirror. Blue Team Village (our friends just call us BTV) is both a place and a community built for and by defenders. It's a place to gather, talk, share, and learn from each other about the latest tools, technologies, and tactics that our community can use to detect attackers and prevent them from achieving their goals.

BTV packs more fun and learning into three days than any defender can possibly fit in. If you like to compete in CTFs, we have two: This year we are again hosting the uniquely blue Network Defense OpenSOC CTF, and we’ve also added the equally creative BiaSciLab's Bia Hak Lab CTF. Maybe you just want to hang out in the Village with like minded defenders. Maybe you prefer to learn from over a dozen defender focused talks, or get hands-on training in a half dozen defender workshops. Maybe you'll want to buy the insanely cool BTV badge that gives you access to our underground networking, threat intel meet-up, and party at Blue Team Village After Dark (BTVAD). We're not gonna say if there will be live entertainment, but who knows? We guess you'll have to see that for yourself. Oh... Did we mention that the BTV badge is a hackable platform based on the Pi Zero W and that it will have WiFi AP mode, badge to badge comms, and various honeypots?

BTV promises to be an all out firehose of Blue Team learning, sharing, and fun for the defenders that build stuff, defend stuff, and just make it generally hard for attackers. Come celebrate the other side of the hacking mirror with us. We'll keep a blue light on for you!

@DianaInitiative

Back for the third year, The Diana Initiative is hosting a two-day conference to celebrate women in security and diversity in technology employment. This year’s event will take place on August 9th and 10th 2019 at the Westin Las Vegas Hotel in Las Vegas. The Diana Initiative is about increasing the number of women in information security, and welcoming and accepting diversity.

This year’s theme is “Believe and Achieve - Together”. We believe in the strength we find working together as allies. The changes we seek will come through unity and not divisiveness. As a united family, we support and stand by each other, accepting people for who they are. We will celebrate our diversity and represent differences in experience, backgrounds, and all skill levels. Our event will foster empowerment, encourage initiative and create opportunities with resume reviews, a job fair, and help connect attendees with potential employers who support diversity and inclusion.

While our website will contain the most up to date information, highlights of this year’s conference include:

  • Two large speaker tracks able to accommodate 250 attendees per session/tracks

  • A workshop track

  • Engaging events and challenges

  • Lock picking village

  • Career village

  • Badge soldering and maker village

  • CTF village
